About us
Rush Flat Consulting began in late 2004, when Brian Speirs left Meat and Wool New Zealand. Brian had spent 18 years with MWNZ, with 15 of those in the role of Chief Economist.
However, as a business entity, Rush Flat
has been operating since the early 1980s. It began as a family
partnership, and evolved into a family company. It's principal activity
has been Agri-Business, with farms around Foxton and Himatangi in the
Manawatu and Horowhenua districts of New Zealand.
The
business consultancy arm operates out of Wellington, the capital city
of New Zealand. The administrative functions of the company remain in
Foxton.
Why 'Rush Flat'?
The name Rush Flat
has been around much longer than the Rush Flat business. The Speirs
family first purchased land in the Foxton area in the 1930s. The land
adjoined the Manawatu river and was subject to periodic flooding. The
land was flat and covered in rushes. Consequently, the farm was given
the name Rush Flat.
